Salsa

Salsa is one of the most popular forms of Latin dance. It is derived from many Cuban and Afro-Caribbean styles of movement. When danced with a partner, Salsa can be simple with small steps and basic patterns, or it can be quick and dynamic with fast turns and intricate arm movements. Salsa can also be done in line formation and is an excellent entry into the world of dance.

Merengue

The Merengue is one of the most popular dances throughout Central and South America and the Caribbean Islands. The Merengue features a simple basic step similar to marching. It’s an easy dance that’s fun and festive.

Lyndy Hop

Lindy Hop, also known as Jitterbug, is the authentic Afro-Euro-American Swing dance. It is an unabashedly joyful dance, with a solid, flowing style that closely reflects its music from the late 20's hot Jazz to the early 40's Big Bands. Just as Jazz combines European and African musical origins, Lindy Hop draws on African and European dance traditions. The embracing hold, and the turns from Europe, the breakaway and solid, earthy body posture from Africa. The dance evolved along with the new swing music, based on earlier dances such as the Charleston and the Black Bottom.

Hustle

Popular in New York City discos in the 70’s, the Hustle was showcased in the film, “Saturday Night Fever”. The Hustle originated from Latin dances and is performed with a partner, but can also be done as a line dance. Some of the Hustle’s features are similar to Swing.

Argentine Tango

The Argentine Tango was born in the ghettos and brothels of the capital city of Argentina, Buenos Aires, in the latter part of the 19th Century. Initially encouraged to learn the lady’s steps, young men were able to determine how to fit his step within the lady’s foot patterns.
